Dream Multimedia has released a new Tuner module for their receivers
- DM900
- DM820
- DM7080
The new Dreambox Triple Hybrid Tuner supports:
- DVB-S2X
- DVB-C
- DVB-T2
We have tested the tuner on a DM900 and here below you find our review. By the way it is important that you install the latest software (May 2017 or later) on your DM900, DM820, DM7080 only this has the Triple Tuner support.
Installing the triple tuner module
Installing the tuner is pretty simple. Remove the cover on the receiver and slot in the tuner. Actually we ran into an issue here. There was a small tap on the board below the LNB 1 / 2 input which seemed a bit high and stopped us from pushing it in. After slightly bending the metal grip on the receiver chassis we did manage to push it in. According to Dream Multimedia this should not be a general issue but should you experience the same then maybe try the same.
Then it is just a matter of putting on the cover again, connect power and turn on the receiver.
After boot you can go into receiver tuner settings and activate the tuner types you need. Note even though the tuner module is titled as a triple tuner in use it is a twin tuner. The Triple part reflects the 2 signaltypes it can receive.
So with this Tuner you twin tuner options for DVB-S2X, DVB-C, DVB-T2 but only 2 frequencies can be received at the same time. So you cannot freely say record 2 DVB-T2 channels and watch a DVB-S2 channel at the same time.
DVB-S2X reception
An interesting option on the Dreambox Triple Tuner module is the support of DVB-S2X support which is not widely used yet but there are several DVB-S2X transponders to test it on. It works fine in out test. UHD broadcasts will probably mean that the number of DVB-S2X transponders will grow in the coming years.
There seem to be reports on tuner sensitivity issues on some boards but we did not have any issues on DVB-S2 or DVB-T. The latter is not that strong here on our location and the tuner did manage to pull those channels in just fine.
So to sum it up. If you are in the market for a multi signal type tuner for you Dreambox DM900, DM820, DM7080 then the new Triple tuner is a great option. But do note that it is to be regarded as a twin tuner device when in use.
